The Consortium, the award-winning national procurement and fulfilment company, has announced a move into the care home sector.

The organisation, which employs around 240 people at its headquarters in Trowbridge, is best known for the range of products it supplies to the education sector.

But now it is using its successful formula to target the UK’s care homes its new specially focused care catalogue. The 350-page catalogue features more than 3,500 care products, such as disposable gloves and aprons, living aids, stationery and art and craft materials.

Melanie Teal, chief executive of The Consortium, says the move will complement the organisation’s existing 30,000-strong product portfolio, which also features office and business equipment, furniture and janitorial products.

“There are approaching 23,000 registered care homes in the UK and that figure is set to grow over the years as our population continues to age,” she comments.

“It is also a sector which is undergoing considerable change and one which offers us an exciting business opportunity, so this new departure marks a crucial stage in our development.

“Our ‘Buying Made Easy’ formula has been outstandingly successful in our other markets and we will be continuing this approach into the care home sector: helping them to concentrate on what they do best and offering the easiest way to buy the items they need, at great value prices together with excellent service levels.

“Historically, our business profile has been dominated by the education sector but far from abandoning that strength, our aim is to achieve further growth within it. In fact, moving into the care sector does not detract from this – it actually reinforces our reputation for providing a comprehensive service to specialist sectors.”
