WEEE Collection Service

WEEE Directive

The Consortium will be supporting our customers who have purchased electrical or electronic equipment from us to comply with the WEEE directive. We have summarised our understanding of the legislation below and how we can help.

What is WEEE?

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, which is basically anything that has a plug or requires batteries.

What does the law say?

New legislation came into effect on 1st July 2007, which changes the way organisations have to deal with waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).

The WEEE regulations require all organisations to ensure that any WEEE they create is dealt with in an appropriate way and complies with the regulations.

You must store, collect, treat, recycle and dispose of WEEE separately from your other waste -- it can no longer be disposed of with other waste that is sent to landfill.

All electrical items now have the crossed out wheelie bin sign (pictured) to show that they cannot be thrown out with other waste.

How can we help?

In order to help you to comply with the legislation, The Consortium now offer a WEEE collection and recycling service to all of our customers.

Working in partnership with leading electrical recycler, Wincanton, a wide range of collection services can be tailored to meet your individual requirements, whether you need to dispose of one kettle or 500 PCs.

The Consortium can offer customers a collection service for the following WEEE product categories:

  1. Large household appliances
  2. Small household appliances
  3. IT and telecommunications equipment
  4. Consumer equipment
  5. Lighting equipment
  6. Electrical and electronic tools (with the exception of large-scale stationary industrial tools)
  7. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
  8. Medical devices (with the exception of all implanted and infected products)
  9. Monitoring and control instruments
  10. Automatic dispensers

What you need to do
